The honest reason why we built this

When a thought strikes you, opening a full-featured knowledge base often means waiting for a workspace to load, only to be greeted by a blank page that implicitly asks: "Where does this belong?"

To avoid this organizational tax, many of us resort to sending WhatsApp or Telegram messages to ourselves just to quickly capture thoughts and fleeting ideas.

Spillbox.app is a dedicated tool for that exact behavior. It's a local-first stream that gives you the speed of texting yourself, but designed for notes instead of messages, and to safely bridge back to your main workspace when you're ready.

How it works

Ready to capture instantly

Because there are no complex databases to sync or workspaces to render, the app opens immediately. It’s just you and a blinking cursor.

Zero organizational tax

Open the app, type your thought, and hit send. No titles, no folders, and no blank-page anxiety. Everything lands in a simple chronological stream.

A bridge to your workspaceComing soon

Keep using Notion or Obsidian for your heavy lifting. The app is just the frictionless capture layer. Set up integrations to automatically route your stream to your main system.

Your notes stay yours

Local-first and private

Your notes live solely on your device by default. Whether you’re on the subway or deep in the woods, you can always review them or capture a thought offline.

Optional, encrypted syncComing soon

If you want your stream across multiple devices, our sync is end-to-end encrypted. We can’t read your notes, and we don’t want to.

No AI for your raw thoughts

There are no ghostwriters analyzing your rawest mental drafts to suggest autocompletions. It’s deliberately quiet, private space.

No locked-in data

We don’t trap your data. Dump everything to universally readable CSV files whenever you want to move your thoughts elsewhere.
